Now here at makebestpasta.com we love everything pasta and our passion for all types of pasta makers knows no boundaries; they are a blessing to the fresh pasta industry, however, we know that after a long day at work and looking after your children and the family you really don’t want to be getting your manual pasta machine ready, whilst kneading the dough and then to top it off making sure you are keeping mess to a minimum, which we all know is impossible!

Electric pasta makers take the stress out of preparing fresh meals for your family and yourself. Looking after your diet starts with the right nutritional foundations and keeping fresh food on the table whilst reducing the amount of labor involved in creating your special pasta dish is the best of both worlds. But don’t assume just because electric pasta makers take the effort out of the process entirely the fun is lost, there are some machines that do still require the dough to be kneaded and rolled prior to inserting into the electric pasta maker motor. So if you are that individual that takes some solace in rolling and preparing the pasta beforehand know that this isn't lost entirely with an electric pasta maker.

Following on from that there are 2 types of electric pasta makers on the market.

These are: Pasta Rollers and Pasta Extruders. Pasta rollers are just like the classic manual versions whereby you push your rolled pasta dough through the machine but instead of you using your hand to crank the machine there is a motorized unit that attaches to the side of the pasta machine. Pasta extruders push the pasta dough through dies on the machine to produce a pasta shape. Pasta extruders are great as you can purchase and collect more dies to produce more interesting pasta shapes!

2 Types Of Electric Pasta Makers

Electric Pasta Extruders

Pasta extruders are a completely different pasta making machine. Ultimately they take out the need for preparing and kneading the pasta dough but you still need to put the ingredients in the machine and adjust accordingly as you don't really want wet pasta dough going through your machine. Pushed out of a pasta extruder die the pasta comes out in the shape of your choice. Overall not much effort needed at all to produce pasta that is fresh, fun to make and tastes absolutely delicious.

Electric Pasta Rollers

atlas electric pasta maker

Pasta rollers are just like the classic manual versions whereby you push your rolled pasta dough through the machine but instead of you using your hand to crack the machine there is a motorized unit that attaches to the side of the pasta machine and it is this attachment that carries out the once strenuous task for you. At least now you can blame the machine if the pasta goes wrong!

2. Philips Viva Collection Pasta Extruder

•By: Philips

•Material: Heavy Duty Plastic Housing

•Dimensions:  13 x 5 x 10 inches

•Weight: 13 pounds

Philips is a world renowned household name and it is safe to say that at some point in your life you have owned a product made or derived from Philips. The Philips Viva electric pasta maker is a stylish choice that comes with industry leading quality and design. What I personally enjoy about the Philips Viva pasta maker is the size of the machine. The unit itself is not too big but at the same time isn’t so small that it doesn't make a presence in your kitchen. It fits perfectly on a kitchen unit and for that matter looks very sleek and stylish.

The efficiency of this machine is another incredible facet to consider. What we found when we first tested the machine is that the mixer itself kneads and makes the pasta in record time and leaves one of the best consistencies out of all the pasta makers we tested, apart from its big brother (Philips Avance). The mixer bar is a unique feature to the Philips range and it allows for an even mix from every corner of the chamber. The full process from ingredients into the machine to pasta coming out of the extruder was 22 minutes which we think is incredible.

The Philips Viva electric pasta machine comes out of the box with 3 shaping discs allowing you to enjoy a variety of different types of pasta shapes such as spaghetti and fettuccini. Philips have also thought ahead and provided their customers with a free recipe book, a nice touch that will allow you to come up with a variety of tastes. We found that this recipe book also gives you a greater insight into the cooking of fresh pasta.

As soon as we pulled this out of the box we knew it was going to be a winner. If you are looking for a hands off approach to pasta making then the Philips Viva electric pasta maker is definitely a choice to not just consider, but to buy!

Pros

  • The machine is easy to clean and very simple to operate.
  • The process of mixing and extruding the pasta dough is completely automatic
  • The machine is compact and saves on counter space.

Cons

  • Limited to 3 pasta attachments that come as standard with the machine.

We thought that the Viva electric pasta maker kneaded and made fresh pasta dough fast but this machine blew it out of the water; within 15 minutes we had fresh pasta dough that resembled something made by a pastry chef! The consistency was incredible and when extruded out of the 4 disc shapes, that come out of the box with the machine, we were very surprised with the quality of the dough. With this electric pasta maker producing great pasta is really as simple as pressing a button.

As mentioned previously the Philips Avance electric pasta makers comes with 4 disc shapes. The discs can make the following pasta shapes: spaghetti, fettuccine, penne and lasagna sheets. You can also purchase additional disc cutting shapes such as tagliatelle and pappardelle.

What was really surprising about this machine compared to the rest on the list we tested was that this machine was incredibly silent and didn't produce hardly any sound at all whilst kneading the pasta dough compared to other competitor machines on the market. This has to be one of the best features on this machine as it doesn't make using the machine a nuisance at all.

The Philips Avance electric pasta maker has received outstanding reviews by its customers since its release in 2014 and we can see why. This has to be our favorite electric pasta extruder machine by a long way within its price range, the build quality is impeccable, the machine is easy to clean and the look of the machine will suit a kitchen of any taste.

Here we are, with the big brother of the Philips electric pasta maker line up. The Philips Avance Collection is touted as one of the best electric pasta makers on the market and when we tested it, we can see why. This electric pasta maker is perfect for the family home where demand for fresh pasta is high. This machine wants to be used, a lot, and can make pasta dough in record time.
